(Flash website designs) Goth And The Internet

By Roberto Garabell

If you are online looking for the word Goth you might be misguided to some other web sites that might provide you more information about East Germanic tribal people and their history. However, here we are referring to the gothic rock subculture that emerged in the 1970s that changed the genre of rock music. The gothic rock bands were very different from punk rock bands as they had their own style which emphasized on horror and depression.

Gothic bands like Bauhaus, Banshees and Siouxsie were few among the pioneer bands that led the gothic rock culture. The use of sorrowful and epic sounds added with guitars and synthesizers were the strong points of gothic rock. However, it was only in the twentieth century that goth got more popularity through the medium of internet.

With the advent of internet, gothic rock got began to spread across many parts of the world. Many web sites were developed to spread goth music and goth subculture. Online radio stations and internet radio’s popularity grew and more and more people started loving gothic rock as it was very close to dark romance which was preferred by the young crowd.

Many goth bands that were looking for good amount of publicity used internet as their medium of propaganda as more and more people were hooked online.

Movies that were heavily influenced by the goth subculture were being played and sold online. Since goth subculture also has its influence on clothing and jewellery, many web sites were developed that sold gothic jewellery, gothic clothing and accessories and gothic footware. Gothic giftware was widely publicized through internet. For those who were single and looking out for gothic partners, goth dating sites were being developed so that they can find the right partners who would be equally inclined towards the goth music. Many discussion sites and forums also came up where gothic music fans were able to communicate with each other and promote gothic music.

Internet was also used as a medium to communicate the ideologies of goth subculture which emphasized more on feelings of horror, supernatural and mystery. Many internet web sites related to gothic music claim that goth subculture does not associated with violence, but they rather preach tolerance. Inspite of many web sites that claim that gothic music is not socially rebellious, many controversies have been in news that strongly criticized goth subculture.

Small Business Pitfalls of Banner Advertising

By Nazir Daud 1

Despite what you might sometimes hear, banner advertising is still very successful for many small businesses, but only if carried out in the right way. What is the right way, and how does your business avoid the pitfalls of advertising on the internet? The answer is to understand the customer more than many advertisers seem to. There are very many examples of poor advertising on the internet. It is only by being aware of the poor tactics used by those businesses that fail to understand their visitors that you can make sure your own banner advertisements are successful.

An example of a banner advert can be found on the overwhelming majority of web pages across the internet. However, of course, prevalence is no testament to either quality or success, and in many cases, neither attribute seems very evident. Most people have become utterly tired of the clichd banners flashing like a Las Vegas neon sign that is trying to outdo the rest of the website. Typically, these adverts congratulate the visitor on being the 100,000,000th visitor to see the advert, in which case you feel deeply sorry for the other 99,999,999 people who have also had to risk having a seizure and getting nothing for their trouble!

Similarly, banner adverts which try to frighten potential customers into clicking on them have tended to become shunned, ignored or blocked, such as those suggesting that, in the microsecond since the web page was loaded, they have managed to scan your entire hard drive and discover a virus which was evidently missed by that expensive, award winning anti-virus software you keep updated every day.

Visually nauseating banner adverts, or those which either try to frighten people into clicking no longer have very successful click through rates, and do more harm than good. Yet banner adverts persist. Why? Simply because there are enough examples of good and effective advertising out there that work, for them to remain economically viable.

It takes a great deal of thought and effort for a small business to achieve success with this form of internet advertising. Avoiding repulsive flashing colour themes, fear or trickery are just the first pitfalls to avoid. Another major problem is trustworthiness. Most visitors tend to view banner advertisements with a deep sense of distrust. Youre already starting on the back foot, having to somehow persuade the visitor you are trustworthy, honest and reliable, intent on doing no harm, nor of assaulting the senses or of pulling some kind of unpleasant stunt. All this in a handful of words and a small image is asking a lot, but it is possible.

One of the other dangers banner advertisers tend to leap into like lemmings having a bad day is trying to fool the visitor into clicking the advert. This isnt quite the same as frightening them into clicking the advert by making it look like a virus alert or system message, but in visually disguising the advert to appear as though it was a genuine portion of the website. This is not a tactic which your business should employ.

The reason is because visitors do not like being deceived. Clicking on a link because it looks like part of the website menu, and then finding that youre whisked off to a website far, far away on a server somewhere in Eastern Europe is not a good way to encourage repeat visitors.

Remember, your banner advertising is often the very first impression people receive of your business. Take a good long hard look at your internet adverts, and ask yourself if that really is how you want your business to be perceived by your potential customers.

A Ten Year Overview Of Mozilla Firefox

By suegold

Without a doubt Mozilla Firefox is the most favorite browser in the world at this moment, but this was not always the case, there were times when there were not a lot of options in terms of web browsers and the choices were limited to Netscape navigator and Internet explorer but that has all changed in the last decade with Mozilla gaining quick ground and fast becoming the most user-friendly and technically advanced web browser.

Not many realize but on 31st march 2008 Mozilla completed its 10th anniversary, 31/3/1998 the date of official release of Mozilla, on this date the first code of Mozilla became available as an open source to general public, 10 years ago this was a huge step, when most of the corporate giants were looking for monopolizing the market with their products, here was a new organization that one day hoped to make it big with their open source code product.

It was not that this was the first such idea to come about, there were success stories of Linux and BSD OS to count on and that was perhaps the inspiration for Mozilla Firefox.

What’s so great about Mozilla is that it granted an open license, so that people could use or modify the code as required to create something new, this at the very inception was thought to be a suicidal step but in hindsight perhaps it turned out to be the biggest plus point of this browser.

Many inputs and modifications were made to the original code to achieve what we know of Mozilla today, what started out as an idea 10 years ago, has shown the world the power of small ideas and how everything great is just an idea at its very inception.

During its first decade Mozilla not only broke many notions like an open source cannot work, or doubts on quality of an open source product versus a closed source code product kept under legal wraps, limited popularity of something developed using such a code. It has today become the choice of over 170 million netizens laying to death any doubts and apprehensions that were associated with open source products, It is the biggest most comprehensive and technologically advanced project that’s open source.

It has time and again set in newer standards in the technology of web browsers be it proxy settings or tabbed browsing etc to name a few.

It has set the standards for what a web browser should have, and how to make it more user friendly, in terms of customization of looks or integrated search box, what Mozilla Firefox has done today the so called major corporations have followed tomorrow. Mozilla has been more secure than its nearest rival, not to mention the various plug-ins and other enhancements that have been developed by coders and programmers to make Mozilla the most customizable web browser ever, and all this has become possible because of its open source license!

Incase you still do not have Mozilla Firefox I strongly suggest you download Firefox right now it will make a world of difference to your browsing experience.

Mozilla has always been about transparency and it has always stood by people coaxing them to think and visualize big for visions do come true.
